Applications for advanced cancer patients: managing medication side effects, curbing opioid dependency, and advocating holistic pain relief.

Left hand
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research.

The focus of the clinical study they are running, My PainPal, is to monitor and educate patients on a continuous basis to aid them in the process of finding a good balance between pain management and side effects.

Alternova redesigned the UX to increase adherence and fixed some data collection challenges. Today we maintain the app.

My PainPal offers resources that help patients manage activity level, constipation, stress, sleep and opioid use. The app also offers tools to help patients define goals that motivate them and help them find meaning through the process of end of life: going on a 15 min walk every Tuesday, having lunch with a friend once a week, attending a grandson’s sports event, showering by themselves, etc.
